Seeing Clearer Through a Distorted Vision | 2022

On 16 September 2022, 22-year-old Iranian woman Mahsa Amini died as a result of police brutality. Her Death resulted in a series of Protests and there began the movement of “Women, Life, Freedom”. The series of events that occurred during the time of these protests wholly changed the rigid beliefs of the mass and their understanding of each of these three words.

After what happened in September 2022, I couldn’t come back to drawing for a while. What was happening in my country caused a great upheaval in how I thought about everything; as so many other artists that too had come to an art block at that time. After about a month of contemplating I forced myself to start to draw something. I found a mirror-like globe and started to draw my reflection in it. This mirror-ball distorted my body and the space around me to create a whole new variation of the same world I used to see before I looked into this globe. That was all that had been happening in my head at that time.
