Forget-me-not 2020-2023
“Myosotis”, commonly known as “forget-me-nots”, are self-seeding plants which bloom in mid to late spring. It is mostly recognized by its baby blue flowers with yellow centers. They frequently escape to riverbanks as they prefer moist habitats. Forget-me-not flowers are long believed to carry a symbolic meaning of remembrance.
The set of drawings, “forget-me-not” were created as a result of a personal experience and were formed during a meditative process. Every time I washed my hands in the middle of doing everyday tasks, thoughts about what is going on out there and what was to come suddenly burst into my head. The feeling of warmth or coldness of the water contrasted with the disordered unpredictability outside soothed me, made me feel like I am still alive; I wanted this feeling to linger; The faucet would remain open with my hands under the running water until the feeling was gone. First i was just experimenting with this subject and I wasn’t thinking of collecting them as a set of drawings, but then I felt as if the process of drawing itself works like keeping my hands under water for me.
By repeating these moments frantically, and making small changes through the process of drawing, the chaos and stillness were comprehended at the same time. The process took over a long time, because i worked on them strictly, only on those times when that special feeling hit me. Working on this collection began in the summer of 2020 and continued until the summer of 2022.
